Myths of eating

We are constantly plastered with tons of information from so many sources, and most of the time the information is very contradicting.  Its actually quite hard what should we believe and what should we actually forget.

I am going to talk you through 3 myths that we are constantly faced with from many of our new clients at the studios.

The first one is,

"I like eggs, but can't have too many because its bad for my Cholesterol"

We get this ALOT...  Guys....Eggs are probably one of the most healthiest foods you can eat and they do not have any negative impact on cholesterol levels. There have been many nutritional studies which have dispelled the myth that you should avoid eating eggs,

One such study, published in 2010, showed that egg consumption did not have a negative effect on endothelial function - a measure of cardiac risk - and did not cause a spike on cholesterol levels. The participants of this study ate two eggs per day for a six week period. Here are a few benefits that we can get from eggs.
  • One egg contains 6 grams of good protein and all 9 essential amino acids
  • Eggs help promote healthy hair and nails
  • Eggs are one of the few foods that contain natal Vitamin D
  • Eggs are a good source of choline..  choline helps regulate the nervous and cardio vascular systems and is great for all you pregnant women out there as it influences normal brain development of the unborn child
  • Eggs also have good sources of magnesium, zinc, iron and calcium along with a lot more
So remember don't worry about eating too many eggs.

Another myth that we need to keep educating our clients on is:

Eating Fat Makes You Gain Weight

This statement is so false, and we need to try to get away from this thinking.  I would say that the low fat myth has actually done more harm to the health of millions than any other dietary recommendation.  The low fat diet actually increases your risk of obesity, diabetes and heart disease, which is what they said was the cause due to saturated fats...

Just Remember, that eating fat will not make you fat!

The consumption of too much sugar is the true primary cause of excess weight and all the chronic diseases associated with it.  Fructose especially.  The other killer is the grains, which rapidly convert to sugar in your body. If they came out with a low sugar diet instead of the low fat diet, then you would see we wouldn't have half the health problems that we are faced with in the world today.

Although you not may not think it, fats like butter, avocados and even animal fat are actually good for you.

Whole Grains are Good for Everyone'

We are constantly that we should be eating healthy whole grains because there are many benefits from the high fibre content. Unfortunately ALL grains, including whole-grain and organic varieties, will elevate your insulin levels, which can increase your risk of disease. They also contain gluten, which most of us struggle with.  We find most people struggle controlling their insulin levels, especially those who have the following conditions:
  • Overweight
  • Diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Protein metabolic types
At No1 Fitness, we strongly recommend eliminating or at least restricting grains as well as sugars/fructose from your diet, especially if you have any of the above conditions that are related to insulin resistance.

Try it for 2 weeks and we GUARANTEE that you will notice many positive changes, not only in weight loss, but also a reduction in body fat, increased energy levels and better sleep.  Grains are a KILLER, so don't pay attention to stuff you see advertising healthy whole grains.
